Michael McLean

Last night we were able to attend an adoption fireside that featured Michael McLean.
As we were sitting there waiting for the fireside to begin he came into the audience and talked to a few people.   He came to our row and asked about Max and said hi to Madeline.   He really enjoyed Max's cheeks and how big he was.  Then he moved to the row behind us and Max just loved him.  He reached over the row to get to him and Michael would say hi again and played with him and couldn't help but give those big cheeks a kiss.  I haven't ever seen Max be so happy to see a stranger.   He played with him until it was time to talk and Max just thought he was the greatest.
He played this song to our group and told the story behind it.   One day he got a phone call from a birth mom who was in the process of placing her child for adoption.   She called and asked if he would write a song to give to the adoptive parents and the baby.  She wanted the song to explain her love for her son and the reason she chose adoption was because of that love.  He was allowed to read her journal to really understand where she was coming from.  He called her a few months later and sang this song to her and she said that it was perfect.
There happened to be a birth mom sitting in front of us.  The song really touched her and she became very emotional.  It was so touching to see her there with her adoptive parents and their daughter.  The adoptive mom just put her arms around her and held her tight.  Then the birth mom looked at their daughter and just held her.  It was so touching.
Birth moms are completely amazing.

Beautiful Fall Hike

We used up the last beautiful days of autumn and went on a hike.   It was so beautiful and I was glad Kendall suggested it.
Madeline pretended that we were on 'The Sound of Music' and we were running away from the Nazis.   So we pretended we were in the mountains of Austria.  Every once in a while we would pass other hikers and Madeline would randomly shout "Nazi"!   I hope nobody heard us.

Max LOVED the hike and he would just chatter to himself and sing, until the end when he fell asleep.
We had so much fun and hope to do more in the summer.
