Little man

Little man and his boots.  He loves his boots it is awesome.

So my lovely friend Diane helped me paint a motorcycle dude on Max's wall.  She is amazing and so awesome for helping me plus SUPER talented!  She emailed me this picture

and we hooked up the laptop to the projector and projected it onto the wall.  Then we traced it and started painting!  It took about 5 hours all together.

Here is Diane.

Summer

Summer has been a few different things so far... and I might be able to sum it up with a bunch B words for fun...
Blissful, boring, and blustery and one F word (no not that F word), famished.
We have loved sleeping in... well Madeline has.  Max is still up at 6.   I feel lucky if he sleeps in until 7.  That is one sweet hour of happiness.

Madeline is bored for at least part of the day and the other part she is famished.   Usually about 10 minutes after she eats, I hear "I need a snack".   What the hay!?!  I have gone through granola bars and gold fish like crazy around here!

So here are some moments of our summer.   Enjoy!

Eating...

Pointing

More eating...

Playing!

Screaming

Emptying the sandbox.. Max thinks that is his job.

See... his little hand?
He just finished throwing out some unneeded sand.  Because who needs sand in a sandbox?

Insert evil laughter...

Got to have the hat to cover that bald little head.

This was one of the more nonblustery day.. actually morning.  We took advantage of the 2 hour warm spell to have a friend over to get wet.

And she thought Max should get wet.   Not appreciated by Max.

They filled up water balloons  and threw them in the air with towels.

Super fun.

We have had a lot of reading...
She loves "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books.  However she does not understand all of the 5th grade lingo.    So the books are kind of my worst enemy because I get a lot of questions like " what does in the nick of time mean"?  Or "every man for himself"?    Apparently common sayings like this are totally lost on a 1st grader.   Usually when I answer she is more confused.

We have a had a lot of cold blustery days and this is what we do....

Caves!

This week we had the lovely opportunity to spend some time with Kendall's family.   We hiked and explored the caves.  The ancient lava flows are amazing.

Max enjoyed the dirt.
Unfortunately craters dirt is nasty and hard to clean up.

But Max doesn't care.  Apparently it is very good mixed with peanut butter and jelly.

Max just pointed and talked, he really enjoyed his ride in the back pack.

This was one of the caves we went  into.   The kids had a blast.

The three amigos.

One of Max's funny facial expressions.

He lasted the whole day and feel asleep at the end of the last trail, and then he took a 5 minute nap and jabbered the whole way home.

Madeline's Music Recital

Madeline has graduated from her 'Let's Play Music' Class.   She had so much fun over the last 3 years.  I have been very impressed with the class.  She has learned so much!
This year they were able to compose their own songs on the piano.

Madeline's song was entitled "The Fairy Dance".   Because it sounds like fairies dancing.

Sorry for the cruddy pictures.  I had my little camera.

Madeline's Dance Recital

Madeline was able to perform two dances in her recital this year.  She absolutely loves to perform and even though it is a rough week of rehearsals it is worth it to see her so excited.   So one bad week out of the whole year... that is not too bad.

Madeline performing her tap dance.

I was very impressed that this year she did the dance with a big smile and she didn't look at the other kids but right at her teacher.

Madeline's ballet dance.  This year one of the girls in her group got to dance with a boy, unfortunately the girl was accidentally dropped on the second night.   But they got right back up and kept going.

Miss Paunie giving the girls directions.  Madeline just loves her teachers.

After the show...

Last year Madeline saw all the other girls getting flowers from their families and I didn't even think about getting flowers.  Needless to say she was pretty disappointed.  This year Kendall was a champ and had a bouquet ready for her.   We got the best reaction!  She was so excited and my camera snapped right at the perfect moment.

As you can see Max was clearly thrilled to be there.  I am afraid he is in for a long road of dance recitals.     He will have to get even with baseball or karate.
